Well folks, it’s finally happened - last week I turned 27 and I am officially in my late twenties!
I spent my morning in the gym, my day at work and my evening dancing and drinking with my girlfriends at my favourite pub. In most respects it was an ordinary day, but I was buzzing with an energy that I probably haven’t felt on a birthday since I turned 21.
26 changed me so much. It would be cliche to say I’ve found myself, but in a lot of ways I have. I actively worked on myself a lot this year and I’ve stumbled upon this new sense of awareness. I notice things in myself and the world that I didn’t see before and I feel an intense gratitude for my life and a renewed love for myself.
I’d like to say thank you to the friends, family and acquaintances who reached out and said happy birthday to me. From the minute I woke up to the minute I went to sleep I was being sent little reminders of the number and the quality of the connections I’ve made over the years. I’m so grateful for the cards, posts, texts and phone calls. It was a bit overwhelming honestly! I felt overwhelmingly loved and some tears of happiness may or may not have slipped out throughout the day (they did).
I’ve been feeling inspired lately so in honour of another trip around the Sun, here are 26 lessons I learned at age 26:
There is magic in meeting new people
Sincerity always shows
You will never get too old to ask for your parent’s help
Going to the gym gives you endorphins. Endorphins really DO make you happy
Quality over quantity, with everything
Schedule time for your creative outlets
Mistakes don’t make the person. Take the lesson and then let. it. go.
Being kind to your body and soul is really so important
Saying “no” isn’t a big deal
Everything shifts when you make yourself your first priority
It’s okay to change your mind
Love is everywhere
It’s okay to be on a different timeline than your friends back home
Save your money for things you value
Be mindful of how you talk to yourself
A year isn’t a lot of time
Missing home doesn’t mean you aren’t where you’re supposed to be
Don’t forget to play!
What you echo out into the Universe the Universe echoes back
Hard work pays off
Work isn’t everything
Self-love is powerful
You may not always get what you ask for and but you will never get what you don’t ask for
Everyone is dancing to their own melody
I can be a bad ass when I want to be
Life’s been good to me
Tell me some of your life lessons so far in the comments below! I’d love to hear from you :)
